In his first term, President Donald J. Trump has forever changed the office of the presidency of the United States of America. Washington’s norms and traditions have been challenged and preconceived notions of how government and society should operate have been turned on their head. President Trump’s first term has seen a whirlwind of activity that, when compared to the first terms of other administrations, stands alone in its uniquely acceleratory nature. From his contentious campaign against Hilary Clinton in 2016 to the new challenge of Coronavirus and Joe Biden today, his first term has been one for the history books.
When he assumed the mantle of leadership, he was tasked with the titanic responsibility of mending a nation rife with economic uncertainty, severe social divides, and new threats to world peace abroad. Any one of these tasks would have been gargantuan challenges to take on alone – and yet, President Trump has had to face them all. From his very first day in office, he's faced a resistant establishment and endured the most hellacious barrage of negative press, bureaucratic stonewalling, and political assaults of any President in our nation’s history. Further, as the months and years drove onward, new challenges have joined the fray – an emergent and aggressive China, Russian meddling, domestic unrest, and of course, the seemingly apocalyptic spread of the Coronavirus. Whether you believe the President is deserving of his criticisms or not, it’s inarguable that he's had to face a unique diversity of challenges.
Despite all this, President Trump has held his ground. One has to admire the President’s perseverance and seemingly limitless energy. Even after contracting Coronavirus, he fought on, recovered, and now continues his high-energy campaign for reelection. Since the very beginning, the President has met his challenges with a unique intensity, driven by an unrelenting desire to win.
For over a century, the great leaders of our nation have sat behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. It stands to reason that only a “Resolute Man” would be fit to occupy the highest office in the land. Given what he has done and what he will likely continue to do, I believe that President Donald J. Trump, the 45th leader of the Free World, is worthy of this title.
